Dr. Tah Kheng Soon graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India in 1996. Went on to obtain fellowship in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, Glasgow.Worked in the Department of Ophthalmology in Hospital Melaka, beginning as an Ophthalmic medical officer until after the completion of his post-graduate specialist training and his appointment as an eye surgeon in the hospital. Also appointed as the Clinical Tutor/Coordinator & Part-time lecturer in Ophthalmology for the Melaka Manipal Medical College in Melaka.
Experience in Comprehensive Ophthalmology from the year 1998, beginning as an Ophthalmic Medical Officer in Hospital Melaka. He received the appointment as the Ophthalmologist in the same hospital upon completion of the post-graduate specialist training.
His initial years of training were under Dr P Selvanayagi, who was one of the pioneers in intraocular lens implant and phakoemulsification in Malaysia.
From the year 2001, he worked under the leadership of Dr S Anusiah, who is a vitreoretinal surgeon.
His experience in the area of Oculoplastics was enhanced from the year 2002 while working with Dr Kamala Devi, who is an Oculoplastic Surgeon and Dr Kamala chaired the Department of Ophthalmology of the Manipal Medical College in Melaka.
He also lectured part-time in Ophthalmology for the medical students in Manipal Medical College from the year 2000. He was later appointed as their Ophthalmology clinical tutor in the year 2003.
He continued his subspecialty training in Refractive Surgery under Dr Brian Will, a pioneer in IntraLASIK procedure, in Vancouver, Washington State of USA. Subsequently, he was also awarded with the Certificate in Refractive Surgery from the University of Ulster, UK. Upon his return from USA, he established the Adventist Vision Centre in Penang Adventist Hospital, offering the state of the art IntraLASIK procedures utilizing the exact combination of technologies that is approved by NASA for Astronauts, for the first time in the northern region of Malaysia.
Honors & Award:
He won the First Prize in the Oral Presentation of the Quality Assurance Program Competition of the Hospital Melaka in the year 2000, with the topic entitled A Long Waiting Time for Cataract Surgery in the Department of Ophthalmology, Hospital Melaka.He went on to win the First Prize in the category of Poster Presentation at the state level, and then, the Third Prize at the National Quality Assurance Convention of the Malaysian Ministry of Health in the year 2001.
