ABOUT Dr Teoh Kum Faut
Dr Teoh Kum Faut is our resident Consultant Gastroenterologist. He is board certified by the Specialists Accreditation Board of Singapore and is accredited by the Ministry of Health of Singapore and Malaysia in the subspeciality practice of Gastroenterology.
Dr Teoh attained his basic medical degree MD (UKM) from the National University of Malaysia in 1996. He had since served in various departments in Penang Hospital. In 2001, he was given an Excellent Service Award by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia. Dr Teoh went on to complete his post graduate training in Internal Medicine and obtained the membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians, MRCP (UK) in 2002. In 2003, he was conferred the PKT (Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji) state award by the Yang Di Pertua Negeri of Penang for his contributions during the SARS epidemic.
From 2003 to 2006, he was an Advanced Specialty Trainee in Gastroenterology at the National University Hospital (NUH) of Singapore. These valuable experiences have afforded him the opportunity to be trained in the management of a wide variety of common and complicated gastrointestinal and liver diseases. He is also competent in diagnostic and advanced therapeutic endoscopy ie gastroscopy, colonoscopy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
Dr Teoh had presented several abstracts at international conferences and had published 4 scientific papers in international journals. He had also participated as co-investigator in more than 29 clinical researches in gastroenterology and hepatology. He was also actively involved in clinical teaching of undergraduate medical students in Penang Medical College and student nurses from Penang Nursing College. He was a clinical tutor to the undergraduate medical and dental students in Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
In 2007, he was admitted as a fellow of the academy of medicine of Singapore and a member of the academy of medicine of Malaysia. He is also a life member of Malaysian Medical Association, Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Penang Medical Practitioners’ Society.
He is fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay, Hokkien and Cantonese.
